Provision 2: Simplified Meal Service for Schools in the NSLP/SBP

Schools participating in the National School Lunch Program/School Breakfast Program may operate under Provision 2.

Purpose of Provision 2:
– Allows schools to serve meals at no charge to all students during non-base years
– Designed to simplify program administration while maintaining access
Four-Year Cycle:
– Operates on a 4-year cycle:
• Base Year – Collect applications and count meals by eligibility
• Non-Base Years (Years 2–4) – Serve all meals at no charge; no applications collected
– Schools may reapply to continue Provision 2 at the end of the cycle
Meal Reimbursement:
– Reimbursement is based on the meal counts and claiming percentages from the base year
Switching to CEP:
– Schools currently in Provision 2 may switch to CEP if eligible and preferred
